Quit Sugar? Mentally Prepared for Sugar Detox?

Quit Sugar? Mentally Prepared for Sugar Detox?

Giving up sugar can cause a major upheaval in your body. This is a physical reaction to the lack of sugar in your body since it is so used to its presence. People who plan on giving up sugar understand that the physical aspect will be difficult but many do not consider the emotional aspects that are sure to be experienced as well. This is why it is important to prepare your mind for sugar detox, in addition to your body. Below are some tips that will help this preparation go a bit smoother and help you make it to the finish gate.

Tip 1: Tracking Your Patterns

The best first step to take is figuring out why you succumb to your sugar cravings in the first place. You should keep a food diary so you can write down when you craved sugar and what type of food you ate containing sugar. You should also note how you felt before you ate it and after you ate it, and any stressors you felt that day. This can help you to connect your sugar eating to specific triggers. By keeping the food diary for a few weeks you will be able to see some patterns in your sugar cravings and ingestion which will help you to further identify your sugar triggers. For many people it is stress, sadness or anxiety that triggers sugar cravings. (Many people will notice that all of these things are triggers.) Once you know the triggers you can prepare yourself for when a situation arises.

Tip 2: Focus on Your Healing Powers

Healing powers come in all forms. Some of the better processes that have been proven successful include inspiring words and quotes, inspirational literature and positive affirmations. These things help to keep your head in the game so you can meet your goal. Stay focused on where you want to get to and not where you have already been.

Tip 3: Visualize Your Future Self

Visualization is a fantastic technique when you are preparing for any life changing event. Picture your life sugar free. How do you see yourself feeling? How do you see yourself looking? Picture yourself in a happy and healthy body that is free of the restraints of sugar. This is like setting a goal within your mind and can drive you to achieve the success that you desire to reach.

Tip 4: Self Talk

Have a talk with yourself to make sure that this is a step you are really ready to take. Do you really wish to give up eating sugar forever? Be honest with yourself before you embark on this journey. Make a list of pros and cons dealing with giving up sugar. When you pro list is larger than the cons, this may be a sign that you are finally ready to make the move to a sugar free life!

3 Steps to Physically Preparing Your Body for Sugar Detox

Giving up sugar is a personal choice and how you go about it is 100% up to you. Some people slowly wean themselves off of sugar as they would nicotine, and take many months to actually be sugar free. Some go cold turkey and give up every type of sugar all at once. However, it is recommended that you give your body and mind some time to develop foundation behaviors. This will make the journey a bit easier for you to digest. But no matter how you choose to go about giving up sugar, there will come a point that you will have to look your want of it right in the eye and say NO!

The first week that you go without sugar will pose many challenges and in order to succeed you have to be ready and able to live up to those challenges. So, before you make the move and take sugar out of your life you should add a few things. This will pave your way to better habits while you give up the one that is not so good-sugar consumption. It is suggested that before you attempt to kick your sugar habit that you make some other changes first in order to make the transition smoother and less stressful.

The first step is preparing your body for sugar detox. The following steps are things you will find helpful on your journey.

Step 1: Eat your breakfast every morning. This is the meal that sets you up for the rest of your day. Here is the reason; if you skip this important meal then you will not be able to resist sugar products if you are feeling hungry. Eating breakfast stabilizes the blood sugar so that your hunger is satiated and you are not uncomfortably full. (This is important as overeating is not an option for giving up sugar.) Your breakfast does not have to be typical. Eat a healthy, balanced breakfast that you enjoy. This is important in curbing hunger. The more you eat a proper breakfast, the better you will feel and the less you will crave sugar. You should also eat regularly so as not to get over hungry which can also cause sugar cravings.

Step 2: Eat protein at each meal and add more fiber and carbs to your diet. Proteins stabilize the blood sugar and keeps energy at higher levels. Eating about 20 grams of protein during each meal is enough to get the job done. Fiber and carbs provide the same service as protein and that is why they are recommended during your fight against sugar. Some excellent sources of protein: tempeh, lentils, beans.

Step 3: Add a workout to your daily routine. This exercise does not have to be heavy. You can do some light moves and it will have the same effect which is providing you with a grounding experience that will help you to give up sugar when you decide that the time has come.

These are the steps you should take before detoxing from sugar. Good luck and remember there is much more involved in giving up sugar. You will also have to consider the emotional aspects of such a huge life change.

Binge Eating. Are Your Emotions Derailing You?

Binge Eating. Are Your Emotions Derailing You?

Are You Ashamed of Your Binge Eating?

What are you committed to doing about it?

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. I learned a deep respect for one of Goethe’s couplets:

Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it.

Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!”

-W. H. Murray

Commitment = Value
You get out of it what you put into it.
Commit to Mastery.
Commit yourself to stretch your mind, body, spirit, & heart.
Commit to being personally and totally responsible for what you get out of life.
Commit to being flexible in mind, body, spirit, & heart.
Commit to manage your state and effectively stay in a state of positive energy.
How would making these commitments change your life?

Please join me in this commitment.

I will attain emotion control. This does not mean that I will shut down or stuff my emotions. It does mean that I will respond with the appropriate emotions in the best interest of myself and those I care about. I want to be able to do what I want to do and be who I truly am with a sense of dignity and self-respect. I will overcome anything that is in the way of this.

I will commit to 30 minutes a day of quiet time to reflect on my emotions. When exactly will you do this each day? Write it down.

I will share this with someone that will hold me accountable, support and encourage me. Not someone that may have good intentions, but supports my self sabotage.

I will persevere.

I will do what I know I need to do, knowing that it will involve growing pains.

I will examine my beliefs to know which ones are working and which ones need to be altered or replaced.

If you are unable to fully commit to this, then why? Write down the whys. Sort it out.

What are the big Whys for doing this? Write them down.

Act Now.

Is Soy Bad? Is Soy Healthy? Soy is in Everything.

Is Soy Bad? Is Soy Healthy? Soy is in Everything.

Okay. Maybe not everything, but soy can be found in tens of thousands of popular food products. In addition to soy milk and tofu, soy can be found in baby food, baby formula, ice cream, chocolate, bread, protein shakes, meal replacement shakes, soups, sauces, breakfast cereals, canned tuna, protein bars, fast food burgers, fast food pizza, lunch meats, lemonade mix, margarine, spreads, orange juice, ravioli, hot chocolate, bottled fruit juice, dietary supplements and much more.

Why is soy in just about everything? Two Big Reasons:
1. It’s Cheap
2. It can be used to get you hooked.  (see “Effects of MSG? What food is MSG in?http://knockoutweightlossprinciples.com/2012/lose-weight/effects-of-msg-what-food-is-msg-in)

Please allow me to simplify and explain why we are getting such a mixed message about soy. Is soy bad? Is soy healthy? Many messages tout soy as a miracle health food. Many messages tout soy a huge source of disease? Can both be correct?

In general, how we consume soy in the United States is NOT healthy, but for the Japanese it is a big part of their superior health and longevity. Why? What is the difference? Two Big Reasons:
1. Most soy in Japan is fermented. Most soy in the United States is not.
2. Most soy in Japan is whole and organic. Most soy in the United States is genetically modified and processed with heat, pressure and chemical solvents. Most soy in the United States is isolated and not whole.

My recommendation: If you are going to eat soy, then please get organic fermented soy products like miso, tempeh, natto, shoyu and tamari.

Effects of soy when it is not fermented:
• Impairs thyroid function
• Impairs vitamin and mineral absorption
• Impairs digestion because of enzyme inhibitors
• Impairs oxygen absorption
• Has phytoestrogens that can wreak havoc on your hormonal balance

Other Dangers of Soy:
• Can cause pancreatic enlargement
• Can cause cancer
• Can cause DNA and chromosome damage

Read the label. Other names for soy:
• Mono-diglyceride
• Soya
• Soja
• Yuba
• TSF (textured soy flour)
• TSP (textured soy protein)
• TVP (textured vegetable protein)
• Textured plant protein
• Hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP)
• Vegetable protein concentrate
• Vegetable oil
• Vegetable broth
• Boullion
• Natural flavor
• Lecithin
• MSG (monosodium glutamate)

Great Sources of Pectin:

  • Citrus Fruit
  • Beans
  • Apples
  • Carrots

Let’s wrap this up with a focus on lemons. In addition to the benefits also mentions, lemons are great for improving your pH and detoxifying your body, including your liver which will improve your ability to metabolize fat.

Recommendation that will help you lose weight and have better digestion: First thing in the morning and about a half an hour before each meal, drink a warn glass of water with a slice of lemon.

Low Carb Diet Disaster. Dangers of Low Carb Diets

Low Carb Diet Disaster. Dangers of Low Carb Diets

Is a low carb diet healthy?

Here is some important information you should know about low-carbohydrate diets!

Following a low carb diet is disastrous, dangerous, and above all will set you up to fail by leading you down a path of more frequent cravings and many more colossal cravings!  Carbohydrates are NOT the enemy.  Including the appropriate amounts and types of carbohydrate-rich foods in your diet is essential for long-term health and weight loss/maintenance.

When there is no glucose available for energy, the body starts using protein from food for energy.  Therefore this protein is no longer available for more important functions, such as making new cells, tissues, enzymes, hormones, and antibodies
and the regulation of fluid balance.

When carbohydrates are lacking, the body cannot burn fat in the correct way. Normally carbs combine with fat fragments to be used as energy.  When carbs are not available, there is an incomplete breakdown of fat that produces a by-product
called ketones.  These ketones accumulate in the blood and in the urine causing ketosis, which is an abnormal state.  Ketosis does cause a decrease in appetite because it’s one of the body’s protection mechanisms.  It’s an advantage to someone in a famine (which the body thinks it’s experiencing) to lack an appetite because the search for food would be a waste of time and additional energy.

Due to the lack of energy and the accumulation of ketones, low-carb diets are often accompanied by nausea, headaches, dizziness, fatigue, bad breath, and dehydration.

Because of dehydration and a lack of fiber, constipation can result.

Exercise and fitness performance is reduced on a low-carb diet.  Do not be surprised if your energy level is so low that you cannot make it through your normal workout routine.

When you severely restrict carbs, your consumption of protein and fat increases, which has several long-term effects.  The risk of many cancers increases when fruits, vegetables, whole grain products, and beans are eliminated from the diet.

Protein foods are also high in purines, which are broken down into uric acid. Elevated levels of uric acid in the blood may lead to needle-like uric acid crystals in joints, causing gout.

Kidney stones are more likely to form on high protein, ketosis-producing diets.

Over time, high protein diets can cause a loss of calcium and lead to osteoporosis.

Get lots of healthy carbohydrates from vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans, legumes and whole grains.

The more organic and less processed the better. For nuts, beans, legumes and grains, greatly boost their vitamin, energy and enzyme content and make them more digestible by soaking and sprouting.
